You Should Be Dancing (Yeah)

Hey smartclippers,

Who has a brand new IAB certification, a new major SDK version, AND a feather boa buried somewhere in their attic? (Hint: it’s us. Go check your attic!)

So, dig out your dancing shoes and join us in doing the SDK Hustle to celebrate!

OM SDK Fever

We are thrilled to announce that we have received the IAB Tech Lab’s Open Measurement Software Development Kit (OM SDK) certification for Web Video! This means that our smartclip SDK, smartclientcore, can officially support the new standard for ad verification and viewability measurement.

The OM SDK helps define and standardise the viewability and measurement of video ads served on the web. Now that we have this certification, smartclip publishers who use the smartclientcore SDK do not have to integrate OM SDK for Web Video separately. Although certification is not mandatory, the industry as a whole benefits from promoting transparency, standardising measurements, and improving the user and developer experience.

6.0 Inferno

While the certification alone is enough for us to Le Freak out about, it was also the final factor needed to release smartclientcore 6.0 — the next major version of our SDK! The new version supports (you guessed it) the OM SDK as well as the IAB Tech Lab’s Video Multiple Ad Playlist (VMAP) specification. VMAP, as described here, is used to serve a playlist of advertisements defining which ads should be played for a content video and when different ad breaks should be placed.

As part of the OM SDK for Web Video, smartclientcore 6.0 replaces the VAST macro OMIDPARTNER. As was the case in earlier versions, the VAST macro BREAKPOSITION can be manually configured, otherwise it will be automatically replaced by available VMAP data.

Additionally, version 6.0 returns supportedFacadeVersion to the current facade version only. It has been replaced by facadeVersion and supportedFacadeVersions. In order to allow multiple instances, the setup method must be called from the instance API that is returned from calling connect.

And as a Last Dance, we can thank smartclientcore 6.0 for enabling scalability for Non-linear Mediafile attributes and taking maintainAspectRatio into account.

Yours in SDK updates and definitely not sneaking into colleagues’ homes to give them feather boas,

smartclip Product Marketing Team
